N200m legal fees: We sued Sanwo-Olu, not Lagos govt – Rhodes-Vivour

Sanwo-Olu and Rhodes-Vivour

Former gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has reacted to reports that the Lagos state government paid the legal fees of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the tune of N200 million.

The Herald had reported how four law firms got N50 million each from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice to defend Sanwo-Olu in the gubernatorial election petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a Sunday post on X, Rhodes-Vivour of Labour Party (LP) said it was unwarranted that public funds were used to defend Sanwo-Olu when the Lagos state government was not a party to the election petition suit.

“We took Mr Sanwolu, Mr Hamzat, APC, and INEC to court. We did not take @lagosstategov to court.

“Why should the state fund his legal fees.

“Why should citizens’ taxes be used to pay for his representation.

“This is why they are always quick to say ‘Go to court’ because they are so irresponsible and cheap, to not even pick up their legal bills,” Rhodes-Vivour said.
