Residents of Rivers State on Monday expressed their opposition to the former governoNyesom Wike’s attempt to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.
The people of the state took to the streets, chanting against Wike, and simultaneously praising Fubara, referring to him as “our only governor.”
While addressing the people during their protest against Wike and showing solidarity for him, Fubara expressed his appreciation for his supporters and the people of the state for standing by him, promising to always defend and protect them.
Fubara also stated that his administration would ensure that the people of the state enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Regarding the State House of Assembly complex, which was set on fire late Sunday night, the governor explained that he was shocked by the news when he woke up.
He also mentioned that, on his way to inspect the burnt complex, he was shot at by police operatives but was fortunate to escape.
“On my way there, I was shot at directly by the OC or DC operation, but it doesn’t matter, because someone will die one way or the other, either inside their house or on the road.”
Fubara also challenged his opposition and those behind the move for his impeachment to provide strong evidence of his offenses warranting impeachment.
He further emphasized that he was not afraid of impeachment and challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying, “whatever is going to happen, let it happen.”
“Whatever is going to happen, let it happen. If Siminalayi Fubara is impeached, I am not the first, nor will I be the last, but what is important is that any attempt that is not justified will be resisted,” he stated.
The hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly were set ablaze by suspected political thugs in the state following a move by the house to initiate an impeachment process against the Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie, and the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday.
