Mark Angel, a well-known skit maker and content creator, has revealed the challenges and discouragement he faced in the early days of his comedy career. During an interview with Teju Babyface, he shared his journey and the obstacles he encountered.
Mark Angel recounted an incident where a friend who was working at Shell Nigeria mocked his career choice in skit-making. His friend questioned whether skits could provide for his family, which almost discouraged him. Mark Angel began making skits in 2013 but gained significant recognition around 2015. However, it took until 2016 for him to achieve financial success in the skit-making business.
He said “I started skit-making in 2013 but hit the spotlight in 2015. In 2015, people started to know about me. I think my breakthrough was in 2016. That was when I decided to do comedy full-time. I was doing photography and videography part-time before then. So, I just decided to let that go. It took three years before I blew up in the skit-making business. There were so many times when I was discouraged. But the vision and belief I had were stronger than the discouragement”
Despite the challenges and discouragement, Mark Angel persevered due to his strong belief in his vision. He mentioned investing his earnings into his craft and paying bloggers to promote his skits. Interestingly, the friend who once doubted him now works for Mark Angel’s construction company.
