“My father has never been a part of my life at all” — Pere Egbi

In a recent interview, Big Brother Naija All Stars finalist, Pere Egbi, opened up about why he proudly claims Bayelsa State as his place of origin, despite his father being from Delta State.

The US military trainee expressed his reluctance to associate with Delta State due to his father’s absence throughout his life. Pere emphasized that his father’s absence led him to identify more with Bayelsa, the state his mother hails from.

Pere shared, “I like to say I’m from Bayelsa State because my mum is from Bayelsa. My dad, however, is from Delta State. My father has never been a part of my life at all.”

He went on to reveal the circumstances surrounding his family dynamics, stating, “He left when I was about 4, and my younger sister was 3. He used to live in America before I was born. He came from America and married my mum, and then went back to America. A bunch of things happened, and my parents ended up separating. So, I was raised practically by my mother.

Being the first child and the only son, Pere emphasized the pivotal role his mother played in his upbringing. He recounted how she single-handedly ensured they had shelter and received a good education, supporting them from kindergarten through secondary school. Despite this absence, Pere acknowledged the presence of supportive male figures in his family who filled the fatherly role adequately.

Pere further added, “I grew up in Warri because that was where I was born.
