The Nigeria Police Force has said that the presence of Point-of-Sale (PoS) operators around its formations is encouraging corruption among policemen.
Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated this over the weekend.
He was responding to an X user, who called for an investigation of the Festac Divisional Headquarters, Lagos over alleged extortion of truck drivers.
The X user tweeting from @bowman15273365 claimed that the errant officers use a dedicated POS terminal to fleece hapless members of the public.
Reacting, Adejobi said, “Don’t blame policemen for POS operations in their stations. It’s a conspiracy.
“POS operators encourage corrupt policemen to be more corrupt and wicked.
“There was a time we asked POS operators to stay away from our stations, but some groups attacked the police to allow them work; that it’s their means of livelihood.
“We need to break the conspiracy of silence. We need to look into the activities of POS operators around and within police stations. They are not helping us.
“Their actions stimulate corruption amongst some policemen. Are they not Nigerians like you? Yet they work against their fellow Nigerians because of money.”
