Federal University Of Gusau

The Nigerian military has rescued 13 students and three labourers abducted when bandits attacked an undergraduate hostel of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State early Friday.

The university stated this in a Monday statement obtained by The Herald.

This newspaper had reported that an unspecified number of persons were abducted when heavily armed bandits invaded the off-campus hostel located in the Sabon Gida area.

In a statement, President Bola Tinubu had charged the military to rescue all the abductees, while assuring the families of the abducted students that no effort would be spared in ensuring their safe return.

Meanwhile, the university confirmed that 16 of the victims have now been rescued.

“In a remarkable turn of events, 16 individuals, 13 students and 3laborers, have regained their freedom, thanks to the swift and courageous efforts of the military.

“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty for granting them the strength and resilience to endure this ordeal. The rescue operation, conducted by the dedicated members of the military, demonstrated unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our citizens.

“Their relentless pursuit of justice and freedom has led to the successful recovery of these innocent individuals. The victims, who had endured a harrowing period in captivity, have now been reunited with their families and loved ones,” the university stated.

The university further said that the release of the victims testified to the unyielding spirit of the nation and the dedication of those who serve to protect it.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to safeguard our communities.

“Their heroic actions remind us of the importance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity. As we celebrate the return of these individuals, our thoughts and prayers remain with those who are still in captivity.

“We call upon all relevant authorities to continue their efforts to ensure the safe return of all abductees. This victory against the forces of terror serves as a reminder that, together, we can overcome the darkest of challenges and emerge stronger as a nation,” the institution said.
