In the wake of the tragic demise of former signee Promise ‘Mohbad’ Aloba, street-pop artist Naira Marley, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, has witnessed a significant drop in his Instagram followers. The decline began after videos emerged, shedding light on the alleged harassment and maltreatment inflicted upon the late artist by Naira Marley and his associates, particularly Sammy Larry.
Before Mohbad’s passing last Tuesday, Naira Marley boasted a following of 7.5 million on Instagram. However, after the distressing revelations surfaced, showcasing the alleged ill-treatment, a coordinated move by angered netizens saw over 500,000 individuals unfollow the ‘Issa Goal’ crooner. This brought the artist’s follower count down to six million as of press time on Tuesday night.
While no direct evidence connects Naira Marley to Mohbad’s demise, the circulating videos portraying the alleged maltreatment have fueled outrage among grieving music enthusiasts. Calls for a thorough investigation into the matter have grown louder.
In response, the police officially initiated an investigation on Monday into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. The deceased’s father, family members, and witnesses convened with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to commence the inquiry.
Moreover, ardent supporters of the late artist have organized a peaceful procession scheduled for Wednesday, September 20th, and Thursday, September 21st, as a tribute to Mohbad, aiming to pay respects and seek justice for the departed artist.
