Ondo Deputy Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa Breaks Silence On Alleged Resignation Plans

Lucky Aiyedatiwa finally speaks on alleged plans to resign as the deputy governor of Ondo State, The Herald reports.

The Ondo State deputy governor in a statement he signed on Thursday told the people of the state to disregard a purported resignation letter of his currently circulating in the state.

Aiyedatiwa’s statement followed speculations of a discreet plot to remove him from office if he failed to resign voluntarily.

Aiyedatiwa, who was acting governor until last week when Governor Rotimi Akeredolu returned from a three-month medical leave in Germany, is reportedly under pressure by forces within the cabinet to resign or face impeachment

According to Premium Times, sources familiar with the development told said two options are being tabled by some elements in the governor’s camp on the fate of Aiyedatiwa should he refuse to resign.

The first option is to get him out via impeachment by the state House of Assembly while the second option is to ostracise him in government till the end of the administration in 2024.

The arrowhead of the impeachment plan is a senior government official, who fell out with the deputy governor when Governor Akeredolu was abroad for medical care.

Contrary to the rumour of resignation currently gaining traction in the state, Aiyedatiwa urged the Ondo State House of Assembly and the general public to disregard his purported resignation.

His statement reads partly: “My attention has been drawn to a rumour of a purported pre-signed resignation letter, signed by me, being circulated in the public domain.

“I wish to state that I, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, have not, do not intend, and will not sign or author any letter resigning my position as the duly elected Deputy Governor in a joint ticket with my principal, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, CON.

“To this end, I urge the people of Ondo State, the State Assembly, and the general public to disregard such letter now and in the future.”
