Ministerial Appointment: APC Group Drums Support for Betta Edu

A social-political organisation, APC Youth Renaissance, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider the National Women Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Betta Edu for ministerial appointment.

The group made the call in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Mr. Collins Edwin, and emailed to The Herald.

The statement was released in Abuja to mark this year’s World Youth Skills Day, which is a day set aside by the United Nations to raise awareness on the need for unity of purpose in recognising the potential of young people as catalysts for change as well as to show commitment to providing them with the skills and opportunities they need to build a prosperous and sustainable world for all.

Recall that in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

The group said Edu, by her excellent performances so far, has shown that age has nothing to do with capacity to deliver and turn things around for the better when it comes to national responsibility.

The group said the call has become important considering the enormous role the APC Women Leader “has played in bringing women on board the ship of our great party, saying the national Women Leader has not only implemented the stated goals and objectives of our party for women, but has also used tour and advocacy to raise awareness which resulted in the amazing participation of our women in politics in the last general elections”.

The group further noted that Edu “stands tall when it comes to capacity to getting stuffs done which she has demonstrated as former Commisioner of Health in Cross River State and national Chairperson of Nigeria Commisioners of Health Forum”.

“Based on the foregoing, we have no doubt in recommending Dr. Edu for ministerial appointment for her commitment to the growth of our party and respect for the elders and critical stakeholders in the party.

“Our recommendation is not based on ‘entitlement mentality’ because she is a young person, but because of her proven track records and ability to helping Mr. President to deliver on his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ for the nation,” the statement read.
