Renowned Nollywood actress, Ronke Oshodi Oke, has expressed deep regret over her involvement in the political campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, particularly after witnessing the government’s handling of the October 2020 EndSARS protest.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the talented actress revealed that she campaigned for the APC in 2019, driven by the hope that the party would bring about positive change in Nigeria. However, she now admits that the party failed to deliver on its promises, leading to her remorse.
Ronke Oshodi Oke acknowledged that she accepted some financial support for her campaign efforts, although the amount received was not significant. She emphasized that her primary focus was not on the money but rather on the anticipated transformation that the party claimed to bring to Nigeria. She was hopeful that the APC would elevate the nation to new heights.
She further explained that despite her reservations about the possibility of fixing Nigeria’s deep-rooted issues in a mere eight years, she believed that the party’s leadership had the potential to initiate positive changes. However, her optimism waned when the EndSARS protest unfolded, leaving her disheartened and disillusioned.
The actress expressed her deep disappointment with the conflicting statements made by the governor at the time. She highlighted the governor’s denial of any fatalities during the protest, despite the undeniable fact that even the loss of a single life affects numerous individuals, including the dependents of the deceased. Witnessing this disconnect between the government’s words and actions weighed heavily on her spirit.
Reflecting on her previous involvement with the APC, Ronke Oshodi Oke candidly admitted her regret and remorse for aligning herself with the party. The mismanagement and mishandling of the EndSARS protest became a turning point for her, prompting her to reevaluate her political affiliations and priorities.
