Dollar video: Kano anti-graft commission invites Ganduje

3 Min Read

Former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been invited by the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) over the 2017 viral videos which captured him allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe from a contractor and stuffing them in his flowing dress.

The Kano PCACC ordered the former governor to appear before it within seven days.

At an event on Wednesday, Chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Rimingado had declared that a forensic analysis of the videos, which were first published by Daily Nigerian, showed that they were not doctored.

He added that since the release of the video, he had been under pressure from different quarters to either prove the embattled governor’s innocence or guilt, noting that the commission commenced investigation into the matter in 2018.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano on Thursday, Rimingado disclosed that the commission has extended an invitation letter to the former governor so he can answer questions on the corruption allegations against him.

He emphasised that the Kano PCACC has jurisdiction to investigate corruption cases on people across all walks of life.

“We have a forensic arrangement with experts to analyse the video and would do everything possible to investigate the matter and any other issue regarding corruption in Kano.

“Following up on our pledge to follow due process as usual in the investigation of the alleged bribery videos (also known as dollar videos) involving the former governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“The commission is expecting the former governor to appear before it next week to have the opportunity to clear his name in the ongoing investigation.

“I have signed a letter to invite him for questioning at the commission next week because this is what the law says and we will provide ample opportunity for him to defend himself.

“There is what the law provides, the law is coercive in nature, it compels obedience. The law doesn’t lobby you to come and do certain things.

“There are procedures and we will follow all the necessary steps to do what is needful,” Rimingado said.
