N1bn fraud: Kano govt arrests Ganduje’s ex-commissioner, five others

2 Min Read

A former Kano State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Idris Wada Saleh, has been arrested over alleged N1 billion fraud.

Saleh, who served as commissioner under immediate-past Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was arrested on Monday alongside five others, Daily Trust reports.

The suspects were arrested by the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Reports say that the N1 billion was meant for the rehabilitation of 30 roads and drainages within the Kano metropolis but the projects were never executed.

The money in question was said to have been withdrawn in three batches, paid into account of three companies around April 25th, 2023.

The companies are North Stone Construction Company Nig. Ltd, Arfat Multiresources Ltd and 1st Step Construction Ltd.

Those arrested have reportedly made confessional statement of payment for jobs not done.

“The Due Process office said the certificate of no objection was issued because Kano Road Maintenance Agency said the rehabilitation of the roads would be carried out through direct labour but the papers submitted read otherwise,” Daily Trust quoted an unnamed source as saying.

On June 21, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated Barrister Muhuyi Magajin Rimin-Gado as head of the Kano PCCACC after he sacked by the Ganduje administration.
