South-East governors name Second Niger Bridge after Buhari

2 Min Read

Governors from the South-East geopolitical zone have resolved to name the Second Niger Bridge after President Muhammadu Buhari.

A presidential aide, Buhari Sallau, disclosed this in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

“JUST IN: Following consultations, the Governors of the South-East have agreed that the Second Niger Bridge shall be named the MUHAMMADU BUHARI SECOND NIGER BRIDGE,” the post read.

Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the bridge on Tuesday, some South-East governors paid tributes to Buhari for his role in delivering the project.

Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma said that despite not getting votes from the South-East, Buhari went ahead to execute the project.

“He asked for our votes, we did not give him. He made a promise and now he has fulfilled the promise even though we didn’t vote for him,” Uzodimma said.

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo said, “As you (Buhari) leave office, the south-east will remember you. It would not be inappropriate to call you Mr Infrastructure. This is a promise delivered.”

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has faulted the decision to name the bridge after Buhari.

In a Monday statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the separatist group claimed that Buhari “came to power and completely sidelined our people”.
