The date of birth on Radamel Falcao’s passport is February 10, 1986 was used to complete his £280,000-a-week contract and his work-permit.
United said: ‘We were aware of the rumours but it was never an issue for us.’
Rumours surfaced back in 2005, when Falcao was still playing for Riverplate in Argentina, that Falcao had doctored his age so that he could feature in the Under-20 World Cup.
In 2012, Falcao’s old school leaked documents that claimed he was born in 1984. That led to his family releasing his birth certificate to Colombia media.
Manchester United’s major concern was on the player’s on the Colombian’s left knee which was surgically repaired recently. The player passed his medicals with United before making a return to the Colombian National team in their 1-0 loss to Brazil on Friday.
Falcao said later: ‘Physically, I feel spectacular. As I get into game shape, I believe I’ll show I’m still at the top level.’
