Police Service Commission demands Seun Kuti’s prosecution over assault on policeman

2 Min Read

Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase has demanded the prosecution of Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti for assaulting a policeman.

A video that circulated on social media on Saturday shows Seun Kuti, the son of late Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, slapping a uniformed policeman.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba ordered Seun Kuti’s arrest and investigation.

In his defence, the musician claimed that the policeman tried to kill him and his family.

In a statement on Sunday signed by the PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, Arase demanded Seun Kuti’s prosecution.

The PSC boss commended the IGP Usman Baba for his directive and hailed the assaulted policeman for remaining calm under provocation.

Arase said that the police must use the incident to show that assault on policemen cannot be tolerated.

“As civilised people, we must explore established channels of complaints against alleged infractions by law enforcement officials rather than this uncouth behaviour of assaulting the symbol of authority in our country

“We look forward to the prompt prosecution of Seun to act as a deterrent to others of his ilk,” the PSC boss said.
