Docile state assemblies encouraging outgoing governors to loot billions – Shehu Sani

A former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has blamed “docile and subservient” state Houses of Assembly for encouraging outgoing governors to award personal benefits running into billions to themselves.

Sani said this in a Friday tweet.

The socio-political commentator said this barely a day after reports emerged that outgoing Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku approved N2 billion for the purchase of luxury vehicles for himself, his deputy and their wives.

In a similar vein, the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, who lost his second term bid, also allegedly approved and caused the disbursement of N323million for the renovation and rehabilitation of the Gummi General Hospital without any recourse to due process and procurement laws.

Analysts have hinted that the governors may be trying to line their pockets with the funds in the twilight of their administration.

In his tweet, Sani suggested that governors would have a hard time making such moves if the houses of assembly in their states were up to the task.

“Outgoing governors are allocating billions to themselves because there is always a docile and subservient states houses of assemblies to approve of it,” Sani said.
