Yari

Senator for Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Yari has promised not to step down for anyone in the race for the presidency of the 10th Senate.

He said that choosing a Senate president is the business of senators and no external pressure will be tolerated.

Yari, who is a former Governor of Zamfara, said this on Saturday with executives of Tinubu Shettima Network (TSN), led by Kailani Muhammad, the National Chairman, in Abuja.

This is coming amid reports that Senator Godswill Akpabio has been endorsed for the presidency by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje, had also said Akpabio would be the next President of the Senate.

But addressing the TSN excos, Yari said, “The senate presidency is senators’ business and on the D- day’ when we are going to elect our president, we will do the needful.

“When we do that, we are not for anybody. We are doing what the constitution says that we should take our leader within ourselves.

“That is what the sections of the constitution stated very clearly. What is going to happen that day, it is going to happen based on the instructions of the constitution and not for anyone. So, we are going to exercise our constitutional rights there.”
