Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has chided the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi for naming the new international airport in Onueke area of the state after President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, said this in a tweet on Thursday.
The Ebonyi State Government on Wednesday announced that it had secured approval from the Federal Government to carry out an inaugural test fight at the new airport.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Aviation and Technology, Mrs. Obianuju Alo told the media that the test flight at the new airport was a clear indication that the state is open for business.
The new airport has been named after President Buhari.
Reacting, Sani said it was immoral and sycophantic to name the new airport after Buhari.
He said it should instead be named after late literary genius, Chinua Achebe; respected diplomat, Emeka Anyaokwu; former Nigerian First Lady, Victoria Ironsi; or former Biafran warlord, Chief Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
Sani said, “The Construction of Ebonyi Airport is commendable.Kudos.But It’s immoral & sycophantic to name two Airports in the country after Buhari.
“He should respectfully decline it. The Airport should rather be named after Chinua Achebe, Emeka Anyaokwu, Victoria Ironsi or the Ikemba himself.”
