Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the death of Ismaila Maihanci, a member-elect of the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency, to the 10th National Assembly.
Atiku conveyed his sadness in a statement released on Saturday.
The Herald learnt that Maihanci died aged 36 in the early hours of Saturday and has been buried according to Islamic rites.
Reacting to the development, Atiku said, “I received with shock and sadness reports of the passing away of Ismaila Maihanci, a member-elect of the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency, to the 10th National Assembly.
“Ismaila was a young, vibrant and promising politician whose sudden demise would be sorely missed in his constituency.
“I pray Allah, the benevolent and the merciful, to comfort his immediate family, friends, and associates and to grant the deceased eternal rest.”
Maihanci won the February 25 election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
