Chude: ‘Stop using police for dirty jobs’ – Sowore tackles Emeka Offor

Sowore

The presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the prosecution of a Labour Party (LP) supporter, Chude Nnamdi for criminal defamation by the Nigeria Police Force.

Reports say Nnamdi, who was initially arrested in Anambra on March 18 and freed days later, was detained today after honouring a police invitation in an alleged defamation claim brought by billionaire businessman, Sir Emeka Offor.

He was said to have been detained around 12 noon at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He is expected to be prosecuted by the police for criminal defamation among other charges.

His lawyer, Francis Obuzor confirmed that the police have prepared charges and his client may be arraigned on Thursday morning before a magistrate in the nation’s capital.

Reacting to the development, Sowore advised the police to withdraw from the case.

“Nigeria police must free @chude as there is no criminal offence involved in the so-called “defamation” of Emeka Offor. If Offor feels he was defamed he should file a civil lawsuit.
“Stop using @policeng for dirty jobs. The outgoing IG must desist henceforth from criminalising freedom of speech,” Sowore tweeted on Wednesday.
