Influencer Solomon Buchi knocked over rape tweet

3 Min Read

A Twitter influencer, Solomon Buchi, is the target of attacks on the social media platform following a controversial remark he tweeted.

In the now-deleted tweet, Buchi said men who came across indecently-dressed women and failed to rape them deserved N2 million reward.

The remark did not sit down well with many folks on Twitter, who berated him.

The self-professed relationship thought leader has since apologised, saying that the message in the tweet was misconstrued.

He explained that his tweet was linked to the recent viral video of a mechanic who returned N10.8 million mistakenly transferred to his account and was rewarded with N50,000, which many Twitter users said was meagre.

In an earlier reaction to the mechanic’s story, Buchi wrote, “A mechanic returned 10m Naira that was mistakenly sent to his account. He was rewarded with 50K, and people are arguing that it’s too small to reward a reward.

“The reward for good is primarily the good being done; the interfaith; the humanity; the hatred of evil. If you have an expectation of a reward for doing good, it’s as good as just doing evil.

“If the man thanks him and gives him nothing, that should be enough. He gave him 50K, but some people feel it should have been 1M. This level of entitlement is repulsive.”

Buchi’s apology tweet read, “The tweet I made about rape was me innocently trying to paint an equivalence of how people should not be rewarded for not committing crime, especially about the argument that 50K wasn’t a good enough ‘reward’ for him returning 10m that doesn’t belong to him.

“People should be decent for decency sake. However, that didn’t go well. I should have been more sensitive with my wording. I never intended to sound insensitive. I was riled by how much people tried justifying rewarding not committing crime. I apologize. It was a gaffe. Again, I apologise.”

Despite his apology, Buchi still got bashing for using the rape analogy.
