Pop boy band One Direction follow the likes of Shakira and Miley Cyrus to earn a spot in the Guiness Book of Records.
One Direction is the first act to have their first three albums debut at No. 1 on “the standard-bearing American chart.”
The band’s debut album Up All Night (2011) stood comfortably atop the US Billboard 200 chart, making One Direction the first British group in US chart history to enter at number one with their debut album.
Their Sophomore album Take Me Home was released in November of the following year. The band recorded more than 540,000
sales in its first week in the US, and also rested atop the Billboard 200.
One Direction’s album Midnight Memories is their current album and latest addition to the Billboard 200.
Announcing the award at the ‘Where We Are Tour’ in New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. Niall Horan, 20, said:
“This really is one of our proudest moments, both for us and our incredible fans. Whenever we talk about it we always say how cool it is that we did it first. How sick is that?!”
Fans are looking forward to the release of their next album Where We Are and Who We Are which might be released before the end of the year.
