Senegal put up a dominant performance against hosts, Qatar, winning 3-1, to brighten their chances of qualifying from Group A at the ongoing World Cup.
The Teranga Lions thus became the first African nation to record a victory at the Mundial.
Aliou Cisse’s wards went ahead in Friday’s encounter courtesy of Boulaye Dia’s 41st-minute strike.
They doubled the lead three minutes after the break through Famara Diedhiou.
Substitute Mohammed Muntari pulled one back for the hosts in the 78th minute, just four minutes after replacing Hasan Al Heidos.
Qatar’s hopes of securing an all-important draw however evaporated six minutes later, as Bamba Dieng, who came on for Diedhiou, netted Senegal’s third of the afternoon.
With the victory, Senegal put behind them Monday’s disappointing 0-2 loss to the Netherlands, who play Ecuador by 5 pm Nigerian time today.
