Oba of Benin asks Peter Obi: Can you resist temptation of office

2 Min Read

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has asked the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, if he would resist temptations of office and remain clean.

The revered monarch asked this when the LP candidate and his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, called at his palace in Benin City, Edo State on Friday.

Oba Ewuare II noted that Obi’s reputation preceded him.

He asked the presidential candidate to confirm if he truly rejected a piece of land that was presented to him upon leaving office as Governor of Anambra State as reported in some quarters.

The monarch noted that there were a lot of temptations in the office of president and asked if Obi could resist them and remain clean.

He added that Obi’s popularity had generated a lot of arguments, with many people arguing that his popularity was limited to the social media.

The Oba of Benin said that his findings showed that Obi’s popularity spread across and beyond social media.

The revered monarch maintained that the Benin throne, right from time immemorial, had remained apolitical as he was the father to all.

The Oba of Benin said that the throne’s only interest was that the right candidate that would have the interest of Nigerians at heart emerged.

Responding to the monarch’s questions, Obi affirmed that he returned the land given to him.

On whether he would be able to resist the temptations of office, Obi said he and his running mate would ensure to not only resist temptations but also fight corruption to a standstill.
