A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of 40 properties belonging to a former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu to the Federal Government.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the interim forfeiture order following a motion ex-parte moved by counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Buba.

The judge ordered the anti-graft agency to publish notice of the interim forfeiture order in a national daily within seven days.

The affected properties include one in Lagos, 10 in Enugu, three in the United States of America (USA), two in the United Kingdom (UK), nine in Dubai, and 15 located in the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Ekwo directed that anybody who had an interest in the properties should approach the court within 14 days of the newspaper publication of the interim forfeiture order.

The judge adjourned the case until December 5, 2022.

Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West senatorial district, is currently standing trial in the United Kingdom over alleged organ harvest.
