The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says the Federal Government has jeopardised and bastardised the fundamental human right of Nigerian students to education by failing to bring the lingering strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to an end.
Lagos Chairman of NANS, Comrade Samson Tolulope Olusesi, said this as a guest on an Arise TV programme on Tuesday.
He was responding to questions relating to Monday’s protest by students at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Recall that students slowed down activities at the busy airport during a protest calling for an end to the seven-month strike.
On the airport protest, Olusesi said it was to draw the attention of the international community to the happenings in Nigeria’s university system.
He noted that the students were at the receiving end of the strike, and noted that their future was at stake.
He lamented that some students have become mechanics and some female students have become pregnant because of the lingering strike.
“The Federal Government has jeopardised and bastardised the fundamental human right of the Nigerian students.
“There are some who came to the protest yesterday with their ID cards, learning mechanics now. Some are learning printing works, while some female students are pregnant,” Olusesi said.
He said all the students wanted was for the universities to be reopened and the lecturers to return to class.
Olusesi said the students were eagerly anticipating the outcome of the proposed meeting of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila with the ASUU leadership.
He warned that should the meeting fail to yield desired fruits, the students would be left with no choice but to take the protest to the Apapa Port.
