Hoodlums wielding stones and sachet water on Wednesday attacked the convoy of the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso in two locations in the Kogi State capital.
The Herald learnt that the first incident occurred as the presidential candidate’s convoy got to Kunama Road, close to the Kogi Government House, in Lokoja, where Kwankwaso was billed to inaugurate the NNPP secretariat in the state.
The mob was said to have begun hauling stones and sachet water as the presidential candidate got to the new secretariat.
It took the intervention of the security details of Kwankwaso to disperse the mob.
The second incident occurred when the former Kano governor and Minister of Defence paid a courtesy call on the country home of late former Kogi governor, Abubakar Audu in Ogbonicha, a few kilometres from Lokoja.
It is unclear the reasons for the attack on the NNPP presidential candidate.
However, Kwankwaso later shared photos of his visit to Audu’s residence via his Twitter handle.
No mention was made of the attacks.
Earlier today, I visited the family of my late great friend, Prince Abubakar Audu, the former Governor of Kogi State, at their residence in Lokoja.
I pray that Allah SWT continues to grant him eternal rest, and bless the huge legacy he has left behind. pic.twitter.com/eHXNcSwsVz
