CAN has taken a definite stand on Muslim-Muslim ticket, we won’t support it – Benue Chairman

Rev. Akpen Leva

The Benue Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Akpen Leva, says the state chapter has aligned with the national body’s “definite stand against Muslim-Muslim ticket” in the 2023 presidential election.

Leva made this known on Sunday in Makurdi during an interdenominational Church service held at NKST Church.

There has been controversy over the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s choice of running mate.

Tinubu, who is a Yoruba Muslim, picked Senator Kashim Shettima, who is a Kanuri Muslim, as his vice-presidential candidate.

Leva described the Muslim-Muslim ticket as a “slap” on the Christian community in the country.

“CAN has taken a definite stand on the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC. We won’t support it. We stand to condemn it in this nation and Christians in this country will not support it. It is a slap in the face of all Christians in this nation,” the CAN chairman said.

Leva equally urged Christians in the state and the country at large to deploy every lawful weapon within their reach to defend themselves against attacks by armed Fulani terrorists.
