1 Min Read

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has become a divided house following the announcement of Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate of the party.

National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu made the announcement during an NWC meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday, it was learnt.

Members of NWC were said to have met in line with presidential directive for a consensus candidate to be picked after due consultation.

Adamu however announced the Senate President as President Buhari’s candidate.

However, the announcement of Lawan ran contrary to the position of 11 Northern APC governors who unanimously agreed for power shift to the South in 2023.

It was also said to have provoked protests from some NWC members who insisted that other presidential aspirants like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, David Umahi must be allowed to contest the primary election at tomorrow’s convention scheduled at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
