The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has described the death of young Micheal Abounu, the son of his deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu, as painful and very difficult for the family.

Late Michael Abuonu

According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur, the governor spoke at the funeral held in Otukpo-Icho.

Ortom said it was traumatising for parents to bury their children.

He said the gap created in the family by the demise of the young Abounu may be difficult to fill but advised them to accept it as the will of God who decides everything as he pleases.

Ortom prayed God to grant the soul of Micheal Abounu eternal rest and advised the people to turn to God for them to enjoy the benefits of serving him.

Bishop of the Methodist Diocese of Otukpo, Right Reverend Oliver Abah in his message titled , “There is hope for the dead” declared that since de ath is designed by God, “It can come to anybody at anytime regardless of age.”

Bishop Abah said, though at a young age, the death of Micheal had been programmed by God and admonished the people to get prepared so that when their time comes they would be rejoicing with the Almighty in heaven.

Ortom led members of the Benue State Executive and Security Councils as well as other top government functionaries to witness the burial including a one-time Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Prof Iyorwuese Hagher.
