FEC Approves Creation of 12 New Private Universities Across Nigeria

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved memo to give provisional operating licences to corporate bodies seeking to establish 12 new private universities across Nigeria.

This was revealed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday to State House correspondents at the end of the council meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, in Abuja.

The Minister said, “Council approved the memo for the issuance of provisional licences for the establishment of 12 proposed private universities.”

According to Dailytrust, the Minister of Information said the 12 proposed universities would be mentored by already existing ones in their various locations.

The proposed 12 universities would be located in Kano, Niger, Gombe, Sokoto, Delta, Abia, Anambra and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The proposed private universities are:

1. Pen Resource University Gombe, Gombe State
2. Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, Borno State
3. Margaret Lawrence I -University, Delta State
4. Khalifa Ishaku Rabiu University Kano, Kano State
5. Sports University Idumuje Ugboko, Delta State
6. Bala Ahmed University Kano
7. Saisa University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Sokoto State
8. Nigerian-British University Hasa, Abia State
9. Peter University Acina-Onene, Anambra State
10. Newgate University, Minna, Niger State,
11. European University of Nigeria in Duboyi, Abuja
12. North-West University Sokoto.
