Francis Ogunnusi, a deacon with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Onikoko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has collapsed and died while preaching on the alter against ritualists.
He was said to be the Baale of Onikoko, which is located in the Panseke area of the state capital.
In the incident that occurred during Sunday service on April 3, Ogunnusi was on the pulpit preaching against the get-rich-syndrome permeating into society.
A video of the incident shows Ogunnusi, who spoke in Yoruba, warning money ritualists that others would spend the money they have gathered when they died.
As the interpreter began to translates his words into English, Ogunnusi suddenly tilted forward and slumped.
The sudden incident sent the church into frenzy as members began running helter-skelter.
Ogunnusi was reportedly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where a doctor pronounced him dead.
The Punch quoted a member of the church as saying that Ogunnusi was not the pastor of the church, which is the headquarters of ECWA in Ogun State.
The source equally said that they could not say if Ogunnusi, whose age they pegged at 60 to 70 years, had any health challenge.
“The man was not the pastor of that church; he was just an elder. He was the Baale of Onikoko. He was the one that delivered the sermon on Sunday.
“He was talking about death and people who made money by killing other people. All of a sudden, he collapsed. He was rushed to the FMC, where he died. We don’t know what happened. I was very scared. Everything was disrupted. We just said the grace and went home,” the source said.
