Wizkid, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti and other nominated Nigerian artists, failed to bring back home another Grammy.
There were hopes of another historic win at the Grammys for Nigerian music at the 64th Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tems, Femi and Made Kuti were nominated in the Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Album categories at the Grammys.
However, these hopes were dashed as nominated Nigerian musicians did not clinch any win.
Brooklyn-based Pakistani music composer and vocalist Arooj Aftab edged out Wizkid and Tems as well as Femi and Made Kuti to clinch his win at the Grammys, as he emerged winner of the Best Global Music Performance award.
In the Best Global Music Album category, Angelique Kidjo took home her 4th Grammy award for her album ‘Mother Nature’.
Nigerians we’re quick to express their displeasure towards the results, on social media, particularly on Twitter.
Wizkid who is among the trending topics on the micro-blogging site has his fans lauding him and his efforts even if he lost out on the Grammys. The ‘Daddy Yo’ crooner shared the Grammy spotlight last year with American music superstar Beyoncé for their song ‘Brown Skin Girl’ while Burna Boy took home the award for the revamped Best Global Music Album for ‘Twice as Tall’.
Here are what fans and supporters of Machanla are saying:
Grammy or not Wizkid remains the Goat, nothing is changing that 🐐🦅

Wizkid, Davido, Burna & other African artistes have been putting Africa on the map, these artistes don't need awards to validate their status; Stop using foreign standards to rate African artistes. Grammy is ¤verrated & doesn't make an artiste standout, their body of work does.

To all Davido fans who are celebrating Wizkid's Grammy loss, don't be silly; Wiz losing the Grammy will neither elevate Davido's career nor stop Wizkid's growth. The Grammy organisers may also do the same to ur fave if he eventually bags a nomination so quit shading & have sense.
