Former Barcelona star and one of Cameroon’s greatest footballers of all time Samuel Eto’o has today announced his retirement from international football.
The four- time African Player of the Year took to his facebook and twitter accounts to break the news of his retirement.“I inform you that I am ending my international career Thank you to all Africa, and to all fans for your unconditional support,” he wrote.
Eto’o recently signed a two- year deal with Premier League side Everton.
The striker was part of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon that made it to the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil, however he was not included in Cameroon’s latest squad.
Eto’o scored over 100 goals in five seasons with Barcelona, and is also the record holder in number of appearances by an African player in La Liga.
Having played over a 100 times and scored 56 goals, he’s Cameroon’s 3rd most capped player.
