Buhari has borrowed Nigeria’s future away – Anglican Archbishop

Archbishop Cyril Odutemu

The Archbishop of Bendel Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Cyril Odutemu, has lamented the resort to unbridled borrowing by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He said that present and future generations of Nigerians would struggle to pay back the debts that the incumbent administration was plunging the nation into.

Odutemu spoke weekend at the burial of former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, Sunday Vanguard reported.

The senior cleric stated that despite the government’s borrowing of humongous amounts of money, there is no appreciable difference in the lives of Nigerians.

He noted that President Buhari would be held accountable on judgement day for plunging Nigeria into debt.

“Buhari has borrowed our destinies and that of our children away. There is need, therefore, for a change in order for our children to have a future,” Odutemu warned.

Advising the political elite against amassing ill-gotten wealth, the cleric said, “You may suffer even with all the money you are amassing for yourselves. If your name is not written in the book of life even if you are placed in a golden casket, it is not a guarantee for a place in heaven.”

He said it was therefore necessary for Nigerians to remember the day of judgement in all their dealings.
