The popular AMC series concluded its formidable run last year and is still seen as one of the most loved TV series of all-time. At the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, the show picked up a host of awards including the Emmy for outstanding drama series.
The show picked up an amazing six Emmys in total, only second to “Sherlock: His last Vow” which got seven.
The lead actor Bryan Cranston won an Emmy for his performance as teacher turned drug lord Walter White beating out “True Detective’s” Matthew McConauhey.
“Even I thought about voting for Matthew,” joked Cranston, and then turned serious.
“My own family nicknamed me Sneaky Pete,” he said, noting he didn’t expect he’d find his niche. And then he found acting.
He dedicated the Emmy to “all the Sneaky Petes of the world. … Take a chance, take a risk. It’s really worth it.”
Aaron Paul also received an Emmy for his awesome performance as Jesse Pinkman, Mr White’s partner in crime.
“I’ve learned so much, on screen and off,” he said to Cranston, sitting in the audience.
And Anna Gunn, who played Walter White’s wife, also took home an Emmy for best supporting actress in a drama series. She also won this award last year.
Though “True Detective” lost out on major honors, the show still took home four technical awards at the Creative Arts Emmys on the 16th of August and another one on the telecast for director Cary Joji Fukunaga.
“Modern Family” won its fifth consecutive emmy for outstanding comedy series. Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) won outstanding supporting actor and Gail Mancuso won for directing.
“The Good Wife’s” Julianna Marguilles won outstanding lead actress in a drama and Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a comedy, his fourth win in this category, for his performance in “The Big Bang Theory”.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (‘Veep’) claimed an Emmy for lead actress in a comedy for a second year running. The actress received a profound kiss from former co-star Bryan Cranston which had social media buzzing for hours. It turned out the entire thing was planned and they checked with their spouses beforehand.
‘Sherlock: his last Vow’ were the notable victors of the night with Lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch, supporting actor Martin Freeman and writer Stephen Moffat all winning Emmys.
“Fargo” won two Emmys, including an award for outstanding miniseries, and “American Horror Story: Coven” picked up two awards, for actresses Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange.
Asked backstage if she had any other goals, Lange offered an unlikely objective: “I want to win the Belmont Stakes,” she said.
A heart warming tribute was also done to say goodbye to comedic genius Robin Williams and honour his works.
