A boat ferrying 18 passengers, including children, capsized in Lagos state on Friday.
According to a source, the incident occurred at about 2 pm, when the boat en route Badagry suddenly stopped midway five minutes after cruising out of Five Cowries Terminal, Ikoyi.
An official of the Lagos Ferry Services Company (LAGFERRY) said the incident was a result of a high tide of water resulting from a heavy rainfall with attendant flooding which tampered with the technical part of the boat.

“No Cause for Alarm! The boat was going to Badagry, but unfortunately stopped five minutes after casting out of Five Cowries Terminal,” the official said.
“All passengers have been successfully rescued, while the boat moved to safer harbour till the heavy rain stopped and will be taken to dry dock for technical assessment. We appreciate your genuine concerns.”
There was a heavy downpour on Friday in Lagos, with parts of the state flooded.
The Friday incident comes months after a similar accident in Lagos when a boat capsized at Kirikiri area, en route Badagry, in June 2020.
At least 10 persons were said to have died as a result of the accident, while other passengers were rescued.
