The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hon. Chukwuma Michael Umeoji as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 6 election in Anambra State.
This was contained in a Friday statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye.
The statement contained the outcome of a meeting between the management of the commission held on Thursday.
Umeoji, who is a member of the House of Representatives, emerged from the Jude Okeke-led faction of APGA in the state while a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Charles Soludo emerged from the Victor Oye-led faction.
According to Okoye’s statement, the commission also declared Senator Andy Uba as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the party’s primaries being enmeshed in controversy.
In the same vein, the commission dropped Valentine Ozigbo as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Recall that the PDP held parallel primaries with one faction producing Ozigbo, and the other Ugochukwu Uba, as their candidate.

Okoye said that the commission took the decisions in obedience to court orders served on INEC in relation to the primaries of the political parties and other processes leading to the election.
Meanwhile, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Thursday ordered INEC not to publish any names as the candidate of the PDP.
The ruling followed an ex parte application filed by one of the aspirants on the party’s platform.
