The Senate on Tuesday declined to confirm the nomination of presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie as INEC commissioner.
The Herald can report that Onochie’s nomination had been opposed by opposition parties and civil society groups on account of her alleged membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They urged the upper chamber not to confirm her nomination.
Presenting a report of the Senate Commitee on INEC, its Chairman, Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC – Kano South) said that Onohie’s nomination did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character Principles.
The Senate at committee of the whole subsequently voted against her confirmation.
