Super TV CEO’s Killing: Parading Chidinma Ojukwu Unconstitutional – Senior Lawyer Jiti Ogunye

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Jiti Ogunye, has berated the Lagos State Police Command for parading 21-year-old Chidinma Ojukwu, the suspected killer of Super TV CEO, Michael Usifo Ataga.

The 300-level student of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos (UNILAG), was paraded before the media at the command headquarters on Thursday.

Speaking to the media during her parade, Ojukwu disclosed that she was arrested on Wednesday at her parent’s house in Alagomeji area of Yaba, Lagos.

She confessed to stabbing the Super TV CEO three times in self-defence.

Furthermore, Ojukwu confessed to withdrawing N380,000 from the deceased’s bank account and debunked claims that she withdrew N5 million.

Reacting, Ogunye said that parading the suspect was unconstitutional.

He said that the action amounted to subjecting her to media trial.

“The public have a right to know. But the Police acted unconstitutionally in parading Chidinma, a suspect under investigation, and subjecting her to media grilling, resulting in her ‘confession’ to murder. This is prejudicial.

“She deserves a fair and impartial trial; and mustn’t be extra-judicially adjudged guilty!” Ogunye wrote on Facebook.
