The ceremony, hosted by filmmaker and philanthropist Taraji P. Henson, will also include the BET Amplified Stage, featuring up and coming artists Tone Stith and Bree Runway.

The award-winning actor and musician Queen Latifah will be honored with his year’s Lifetime Achievement BET Award.

With seven nominations each, Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby lead the contenders, with the former up for best female hip hop artist and video of the year and DaBaby in the running for best male hip hop artist and album of the year. Cardi B and Drake each picked up five nominations, and Anderson .Paak, Bruno Mars, Chloe x Halle and Chris Brown are nominated four times apiece.

“As we return LIVE with culture’s biggest night, this year’s show marks many firsts — including the highest number of performers in 21 years of BET Awards; and viewers can expect several surprise moments,” said Connie Orlando, EVP of specials, music programming and music strategy. “Some of today’s hottest talent will join us for our return to L.A. for an unforgettable night celebrating Black excellence.”

Orlando executive produces the broadcast special alongside Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment.
