2023: Nigerians can’t entrust S’East with presidency – Buhari’s ex-aide

2 Min Read

Abdulrahman Sumaila, a former Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters (House of Reps), says ongoing atrocities in the South-East is proof that the geopolitical zone cannot be entrusted with the presidency in 2023.

Sumaila said this in a Thursday statement issued in Kano.

“With these atrocities committed by the South-East people on record, how can Nigerians entrust them to govern us? I am sure not a single right-thinking Nigerian will endanger his life to support the candidature of any South-East politician contesting for presidency come 2023 general elections,” he stated.

He described those behind attacks on INEC offices, security formations and other government property as anarchists, warning that “the perpetrators of the attacks must understand that if the country is turned chaotic, then nobody including the perpetrators can escape”

Sumaila said it was high time South-East elders publicly denounced the attacks supposedly carried out by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or risk being considered complicit.

The ex-presidential aide said, “The elite in the South-East should borrow a leaf from their northern counterparts such as Arewa Consultative Forum and Northern Elders Forum, who have been persistently condemning the activities of Boko Haram fighters and bandits in the North.”
