EFCC personnel on duty

Some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) personnel narrowly escaped being shot by soldiers in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to The Punch, the EFCC personnel were enforcing a court order freezing eight properties belonging to the Director of Finance and Administration at the Office of the National Security Adviser, Brig.-Gen. Jafaru Mohammed in Sun City in the Lokogoma area of the Federal Capital Territory when the incident occurred.

The EFCC personnel were at one of the properties located on 52 Main Street, Sun City and in the process of inscribing the sign, ‘EFCC Under Investigation, Keep Off!” in red paint when soldiers stormed the building in a Toyota Hilux vehicle.

The soldiers were said to have threatened to shoot the anti-graft personnel before finally chasing them away.

The soldiers reportedly got a bucket of water and cleaned off the inscription done by the EFCC officials.

The newspaper further reported that soldiers were posted to guard other properties linked to the general to prevent the EFCC personnel from marking them.

The EFCC personnel were enforcing a court order by Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo in respect of a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/007/2021 and filed by the commission.

The suit was said to be part of a wider investigation into the finances of the Office of NSA.

The anti-graft agency was said to be puzzled that a brigadier general owned properties worth billions of naira in the FCT which far exceeded his income.
