American television personality, Caitlyn Jenner has filed paperwork to enable her to seek the California governorship seat.

Her campaign which confirmed this on Friday said that the official announcement would be made later today.

The paperwork was filed with the California Secretary of State’s office.

Jenner is a longtime Republican who is seeking to replace Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom in a likely recall election.

In a statement, her campaign said the trans right activist is seeking the governorship to cause a change.

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

“I am a proven winner, and the only outsider who can put an end to Gavin Newsom’s disastrous time as governor.” the retired Olympic gold medalist’s statement read in part.

In the statement, Jenner criticised Newsom’s over-restrictive” COVID-19 lockdown, the continued closure of schools in some districts and high taxes in the state.

The 71-year-old Jenner’s ambition mirrors that of Arnold Schwarzenegger, another public figure, who as a Republican challenged another Democrat incumbent facing a recall election.

Although the reality TV star is not branding herself as a Trump Republican, she is said to be working with a number of Republican operatives that worked with the former President during his 2016 and 2020 campaigns.
