North’s the safest place for Igbos – Ohanaeze Ndigbo

1 Min Read

Apex Igbo sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has described the North as one of the safest places for Igbo people to stay and thrive.

Chairman of Ohanaeze in the 19 Northern states, Augustine Amaechi stated this in Abuja on Friday, Daily Trust reported.

According to Amaechi, the few inter-ethnic skirmishes that have occurred in the region are to be “expected in a developing economy”.

He explained that the call for secession has been growing strong in the South-East because of limited employment opportunities in the geopolitical zone.

Amaechi added that Igbo people need the North to maintain their wealth.

The Ohanaeze chairman stated that Nigeria would benefit more from the restructuring of the federation rather than breaking up.

“Our elders are saying that even if the youth are agitating and angry, we need a restructure of Nigeria and not a division of Nigeria because you can’t sell what you produce in your village to make big sales like in Alaba Market in Lagos,” Ohanaeze said.
