Yahoo News was the first, and, on Sunday, NBC News followed suit, confirming the Facebook photos published by the online news site are of Darren Wilson, the Ferguson police officer who shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown last week. NBC and Yahoo both published the same Facebook photos of the 28-year-old Wilson taken from his father’s profile. The photo was posted on February 11 after an awards ceremony in which Wilson received a commendation for “extraordinary effort in the line of duty.”
“Very proud of my son, Darren Wilson on his receiving a Commendation from his Police Department,” John Wilson wrote on February 11. “Congratulations Son.” Wilson’s father appears to have deactivated his Facebook profile but before he did that, John Wilson used Facebook five days ago to ask for support without mentioning details. “Dear FB friends, our family is in need for prayers to be sent up for a family member,” John Wilson reportedly wrote. “Circumstances do not allow for us to say anything further. Please pray with our family in mind. Put a covering of protection over our family member please.”
