American man hospitalised with COVID-19 after vaccination

An American man, Francis Cosme, is in critical condition in hospital with COVID-19 five weeks after he was vaccinated against the virus.

His daughter, Michelle Torres told New York Post that her 52-year-old father took Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine on March 6, and continued to observe COVID-19 protocols, including wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing.

However, on April 1, she said, he began to show signs of the virus, including cough, fever and chills.

Torres said she drove him to a clinic where he was confirmed positive for COVID-19 and advised to quarantine for 10 days.

The 31-year-old said she called emergency services last week when she visited her father at home and noticed he had difficulty breathing.

Cosme, of Edison, New Jersey, was rushed to the popular John F. Kennedy Medical Centre, where he is currently in critical condition.

Torres expressed surprise that her father could contract the virus despite being vaccinated and observing COVID-19 protocols.

She disclosed that her mother, husband, and children have also tested positive for COVID-19 and have been quarantined.

“We survived the whole year without it (vaccine) doing all the things we are supposed to so do — social distancing, washing hands, and masking up.

“It’s crazy and we need answers,” Torres said.
