I won’t pay ransom even if my son’s kidnapped – El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai

The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has vowed never to pay ransom to bandits, even if they kidnap his own son.

El-Rufai, who is a chief antagonist of amnesty for bandits, stated this on Friday during a radio interview in Kaduna.

He reiterated his well-known disdain for the bandits on Thursday, saying they did not deserve to live.

During Friday’s interview, El-Rufai doubled down on his position and added that he had warned his family members to be watchful so as not to get kidnapped.

He said he drove home his point by warning them that he would not pay any ransom demanded should they fall into the hands of kidnappers.

“I mean it and I will say it again here. Even if my son is kidnapped, I will rather pray for him to make heaven instead, because I won’t pay any ransom,” the vocal governor said.

He said that his government would not pay ransom to secure the release of the kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Kaduna.

The governor however explained that his administration would keep exploring other avenues to secure their release.

Parents of the kidnapped students and other concerned groups have been pressuring the state government to negotiate with the bandits to secure the release of the girls.
