Late Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin

President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the demise of the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin.

The Herald reported that Odumakin died aged 59 of COVID-19 complications at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Covid Isolation Centre.

His younger brother, Ademola Odumakin, while confirming the development, said that his elder brother contracted COVID-19 about one month ago which prevented him from attending their mother’s funeral.

He said the deceased was on a ventilator for two weeks before his demise.

In a statement through his media aide, Femi Adesina, the president consoled with the family, friends and acquaintances of the deceased.

Buhari recalled how Odumakin was his spokesman in 2011 when he ran for President on the platform of the now defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

“The President recalls Odumakin as dutiful, and a person of conviction, expressing sorrow at his demise, when he had a lot more to contribute to society and the nation at large.

“President Buhari prays God to grant repose to the soul of the departed activist, and comfort all those who mourn him,” the statement read.
