Igboho: Alake of Egbaland rejects calls for Nigeria’s break-up

Oba Gbadebo

The Alake of Egbaland in Ogun State, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has urged those calling for Nigeria’s break-up to desist before plunging the nation into another war.

Oba Gbadebo, who is a retired colonel, spoke a day after Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho declared Yoruba nation’s independence from Nigeria and ordered Northerners to leave.

The declaration had caused a northern group, Arewa Youth Assembly, to issue a 72-hour ultimatum for Yoruba people to quit the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking in his Ake Palace, Oba Gbadebo warned that secessionists were not only calling for chaos not in Nigeria but across Africa.

The Alake said that Nigeria was not prepared for another war, warning that no country could accommodate the 250 million Nigerians that would become refugees if a war broke out.

“Nigerians, wherever we go in Nigeria we must see ourselves as nationals of the same country, people of the same blood.

“We must work together to make Nigeria great because we must not fail, Nigeria must not fail, if Nigeria fails, the black race has failed and may it never happened.

“Where will over 250 million people go to? If they enter the next country, we will eat all their foods within two days, there will be no food for anybody in that place again that is why we must remain where we are and make Nigeria work and work well,” the Alake stated.
